Herb Bishop was inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1987. Bishop was a member of CSUN's 1975 NCAA championship team under head coach Pete Accardy. Â
Bishop won three NCAA championship events in 1975, capturing the 200-yard freestyle as well as being a member of the Matador 400 and 800 freestyle relays. The 1975 400-yard freestyle relay team featured Bishop, Brad Bowlus, Marc Kelly, and John Larson, who swam a time of 3:07.520.
He was a 12-time All-American and set five national records. Bishop, who graduated from CSUN in June 1976, served as an assistant coach on two NCAA championship teams in 1977 and 1978.
