Muriel Bower was inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984. A Fencing Master, Bower served as the head coach of the San Fernando Valley State (CSUN) Fencing team from 1962 to 1982.
She formed the first fencing team at Valley State in 1962 and would lead the program for 21 years. The program gained national prominence, as the Matadors finished 10th in their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1963 and hosted the NCAA Fencing Championships in 1967. Bower coached five All-Americans in fencing during her career
