Paul Edmondson

Paul Edmondson was a member of the inaugural class inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1981. He was a two-sport athlete at CSUN, then known as San Fernando Valley State College, lettering in both baseball (1963 to 1965) and basketball (1962 to 1965).Â

Edmondson earned a pair of All-CCAA honors and an All-District award as a pitcher, playing for Dr. Stan Charnofsky. He helped CSUN to its first-ever baseball conference championship in his senior season in 1965.
In basketball, Edmondson led the Matadors in scoring average in 1963-64, posting 14.2 points per game. He would also score a career-high 30 points that season.Â
Edmondson was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 1965 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He later became the first Matador to play in Major League Baseball, spending a season (1969) with the White Sox before tragically passing away a year later. In his major league debut on June 20, 1969, Edmondson pitched a complete game two-hitter in a 9–1 White Sox victory over the California Angels.

Edmondson started 13 of the 14 games he appeared in during his MLB career. He had the second-best earned run average (3.70) of any of the six White Sox pitchers who started 10 or more games during the 1969 season.
