Richard Grigsby was a member of the inaugural class inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1981. Grigsby competed for the now-defunct gymnastics program at San Fernando Valley State (CSUN) from 1967 to 1969.
Grigsby led CSUN's historic men's gymnastics program by capturing seven individual titles spanning his collegiate career from 1968 to 1969. The program had 13 individual title-holders overall.
Grigsby won the 1967 NCAA National Championship on the high bar as a sophomore for San Fernando Valley State at Southern Illinois University. Grigsby also placed second on high bar at the NCAA Championships in 1968 and 1969. In addition, Grigsby tied for fifth on parallel bars at the 1968 NCAA Championships. He was nominated for the Nissen Award and earned All-America honors for his elite athletic execution and standard-setting performances on the high bar.
Grigsby graduated from San Fernando Valley State College (CSUN) in 1969.
