Late Run Lifts UC Davis Past CSUN in Big West Opener

CSUN extended its lead to 47-40 with 8:51 left as Cinnamon Lister fed Bernadette Fong for a lay-up. That would be the last field goal the Matadors would record in the contest. On the other end of the court, UC Davis knocked down three 3-pointers, two coming from Sydnee Fipps, to overcome the Matadors and claim the victory.
In all, CSUN shot 5-of-24 (20.8 percent) from the field in the second half. The Matadors finished the game at 30.2 percent (16-of-53) from the field and 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from 3-point range. UC Davis finished the contest at 41.3 percent (19-of-46) from the field and 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from 3-point range.
Guay did all she could to keep CSUN in the game. She led all scorers with 19 points and added three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 39 minutes of action. She was the only Matador to reach double-figures.
Lister finished with eight points and five rebounds. Making her first appearance of the season, Fong finished with three points and five rebounds. Randi Friess led the Matadors with six rebounds in the game.
The teams were tied at 32 at halftime as Guay scored 11 in the first 20 minutes. Fipps finished the game with 15 points and five rebounds. Alyson Doherty added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The loss was CSUN's second straight at home against the Aggies. The loss also marked the first time CSUN dropped its league opener under head coach Jason Flowers.
CSUN will look to rebound with a 4 p.m. contest against Hawai'i, who lost at Cal Poly Thursday evening, on Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip off is slated for 4 p.m. at The Matadome.
