NORTHRIDGE, CA---
Matt Hollod has been named the director of operations for the CSUN Baseball program for the 2015-16 season, head coach Greg Moore announced. Most recently, Hollod served as head coach at Wilkes University from 2013 to 2015 and joins the CSUN staff with 12 years of coaching experience at numerous stops across the country.
"When such a good coach is willing to come across the country, return to the west and join us at CSUN, you drop everything and find a way," said Moore about Hollod joining the staff. "He understands a baseball program from every angle. Our players and all who support Matador Baseball will see the quality of person that Coach Hollod is. I've known him since he's played. The way he carries himself on and off the field is how we want to build each day. We are glad he's back in the Pacific Time Zone and part of the DORS family."
After inheriting a Wilkes team that finished in last place, Hollod helped turn the program into a postseason contender. During his tenure, he expanded the roster from 23 to 35 student-athletes and Wilkes lowered its team earned run average from 7.83 to 4.79. In 2015, Hollod welcomed in the school's biggest recruiting class while also implementing a year-round strength and conditioning program and youth camps located on campus.
Before his coaching stop at Wilkes, Hollod served as associate head baseball coach at DeSales University for two seasons, handled head coaching duties for the Willmar Stingers of the Northwoods League from 2010 to 2013 and was an associate head coach at Southern Utah University in 2010.
Hollod also served as assistant coach at Willamette University in 2009 and at the University of Portland for six seasons beginning in 2003. With the Pilots, he handled recruitment, managed scheduling and implemented the university's first fall hitting program.
Prior to his extensive coaching career, Hollod played baseball at Washington and Portland. He helped the Huskies to a Pac-10 Championship as a freshman and he earned All-West Coast Conference Honorable Mention as a junior with Portland. Hollod started on the mound with the Pilots and also led the team in batting with a .346 average as a senior.
"Coach Moore and the coaching staff here at CSUN do it the right way," said Hollod. "They work hard, are driven for success and passionate about the game of baseball and development of our players. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this program and excited for the future."
