Senior Jasmine Johnson Scores Career-High 14 Points
BERKELEY, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (2-11) lost 106-44 to No. 18 California Wednesday night in a non-conference contest at Haas Pavilion. Senior Jasmine Johnson scored a career-high 14 points in 26 minutes off the bench, but the Golden Bears dominated the action from start to finish to claim the victory.Â
California flexed its muscle early and often in dispatching CSUN. The Golden Bears shot 68.2 percent (45-of-66) from the field and 80 percent (8-of-10) from 3-point range. Cal also out-rebounded the Matadors 47-29, dished out 33 assists and scored 62 points in the paint. Four players finished in double-figures in the victory, led by Gabby Green's triple-double: 11 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists.Â
CSUN shot 26.5 percent (18-of-68) from the field and 11.8 percent (2-of-17) from 3-point range. CSUN committed 14 turnovers that resulted in 21 points for Cal.Â
Johnson scored 14 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field to produce her third career game in double-figures. She added a team-high seven rebounds and also had two assists and a steal.Â
Serafina Maulupe kept her double-figure scoring streak alive by finishing with 13 points on 4-of-17 shooting from the field. She added two assists and a steal in 35 minutes of action. Tessa Boagni finished with 10 points and one rebound before fouling out in 17 minutes of work.Â
The Matadors will have to regroup quickly as they host Seattle University on Saturday, Jan. 2 at The Matadome. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. and the game will be followed by a CSUN-Morgan State men's basketball contest. Separate tickets are required for each game.Â
