NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- CSUN women's basketball freshman Channon Fluker won her second-consecutive Big West Conference Player of the Week award after a pair of impressive performances for the Matadors last week, the league office announced Monday. In victories against UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton, Fluker averaged 27.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game while shooting 71.4 percent from the field as CSUN extended its winning streak to a season-high three games.Â
"It is a great accomplishment and tells me that I am playing well right now," Fluker said. "Everyone has really stepped up their game over the last few weeks and we are really coming together as a team. I want to thank my teammates and coaches for their continued support and I look forward to continuing to represent them and my family as best as I can when I am on the floor."Â
Last week's games with their Orange County Rivals were pivotal for the Matadors. The three schools entered the week separated by one game in the standings knowing that the ninth-place team does not advance to the Big West Tournament. Behind the work of Fluker and her teammates, the Matadors won both games to earn some separation in the standings and start working towards a higher seed.Â
On Thursday, Jan. 28, Fluker and CSUN did not allow snarled traffic to slow down their offense. Fluker finished with a career-high 33 points to go with 13 rebounds and three blocks. She went 15-of-22 from the field to set a new career high in field goals and the performance was her third-straight double-double.Â
Two days later, Fluker pounded Cal State Fullerton for 21 points, 14 rebounds and a career-high five blocked shots. She finished 10-of-13 from the field in that game and shot a blistering 71.4 percent (25-of-35) from the field in the two victories.
For the season, Fluker is averaging 10.7 points and 8.4 rebounds in 18 games and six starts. In seven Big West Conference games, she is averaging 17.0 points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 55.8 percent from the field. She has also made 65.7 percent of her free throw attempts (23-of-35) against league opponents, raising her season average to 50.8 percent.Â
Fluker is the first repeat winner of the conference's weekly award and she is the first Matador since LaJoyce King in 2007 to record four-straight double-doubles. Last week, Fluker averaged 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds as CSUN snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 63-60 victory over Hawai'i on Jan. 23.Â
She and the Matadors return to action on Thursday, Feb. 4 with a 7 p.m. road game at Long Beach State.Â
