While in Sacramento, Matty visited with State Senator Fran Pavley, CSUN alum and State Assemblymember Marc Levine and many others. Matty passed out autographed baseball and softball pennants and Matty-gras beads and posed for pictures with elected officials, police officers, alumni and more.
"There's no question that Matty the Matador and the dozen other CSU mascots who visited the Capitol helped deliver the #StandWithCSU message with a level of fun and enthusiasm that – let's face it – no other lobbyists or advocates could match," said Pavley. "The final budget agreement includes additional funding for CSU. Would that have happened without Matty? Would the Matadors baseball team have won 33 games this season without Matty? The answer to both questions is that his presence certainly didn't hurt."
Mascot Day is part of #StandWithCSU, a budget advocacy effort aimed at urging lawmakers to fully fund the Support Budget approved by the CSU Board of Trustees. California State Universities are the largest producer of bachelor's degrees in the state and the leading provider of college degrees to Latino and African-American students.
