The CSUN Men's Soccer team has promoted Luis Garcia to assistant coach for the 2017 season. Now serving his fifth year with the team, Garcia has worked as a volunteer assistant coach in 2014 and the team's director of operations for three seasons.Â

Garcia is in his fifth season with CSUN
"I've had a long journey with the men's soccer program, first as a player, then as a volunteer assistant and the team's director of operations," said Garcia. "It's exciting to take this next step as an assistant coach to the team. I feel very thankful for this opportunity and I'm excited for the upcoming season."
As a player, Garcia competed in 30 matches with the Matadors from 2011-12. He finished with a goal and four assists in his two seasons as he helped CSUN win the 2012 Big West Conference Championship and the team's first Big West Tournament title in school history.Â
Prior to joining the Matadors, Garcia began his collegiate career playing two seasons at Moorpark College from 2008-09. Garcia also prepped at Frances Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley, CA and he played with the Mexican club team Monarcas Morelia.Â
Garcia graduated from CSUNÂ in 2013 with a degree in sociology. He also earned his master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University.Â
Along with Garcia's move to assistant coach, the Matadors promoted Zach Feldman to associate head coach in January. Also returning to head coach Terry Davila's staff this season will be volunteer assistant coach Tony Castro and director of soccer video operations Victor Garcia.Â
Last season, the Matadors won the Big West South Division and Big West Tournament to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in the program's Division I history. Davila was named the Big West Conference Coach of the Year after leading CSUN to a 9-7-5 record and 5-2-3 mark in league play.Â
The Matadors will host an exhibition match against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, August 19 at 7 p.m. before officially opening up the 2017 regular season versus Siena on Friday, August 25 at 7 p.m. inside Matador Soccer Field.Â
