NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN senior opposite Arvis Greene earned All-American honors for the second time in his career Monday as he was named to the 2018 AVCA All-America Second Team.
After earning Honorable Mention All-American honors as a junior in 2017, Greene was named a Second Team All-American this season. He is CSUN's first two-time AVCA All-American since Jacek Ratajczak in 2009-10.
After a breakout junior season for CSUNÂ in 2017, Greene improved in nearly every statistical category in 2018. The senior from Los Angeles (University HS)Â led the Matadors in kills (378) and kills per set (4.55) and was third in both aces (25) and blocks (46).
A two-time all-conference selection (MPSF in 2017, Big West in 2018, Greene led the nation in both points per set (5.19) and kills per set while also setting CSUN career highs in total attempts, assists and digs. He reached double figures in kills 20 times this season, highlighted by a career-high 40-kill performance at No. 3 UC Irvine on Apr. 6.
Greene concludes his four-year Matador career ranked in the CSUNÂ Rally Scoring era top-10 in kills (874, 10th) and kills per set (2.90, 9th).
"Arvis has really worked hard throughout his entire career and this award is a culmination of all that hard work," said CSUN head coach Jeff Campbell. "He realized he could be one of the best players in the country and really worked hard at his craft. He's a great team guy and team leader, he was the one we called on when we needed a big swing at a big moment. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
Greene is CSUN's 23rd men's volleyball All-American dating back to 1985 when Chuck English earned the program's first All-America honor by Volleyball Magazine. Neil Coffman was the first CSUN player to earn AVCA All-America honors in 1991 and would be followed by 15 Matadors, most recently Kevin McKniff and Jacek Ratajczak in 2010.
