NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN sophomore middle blocker Daniel Wetter earned All-American honors for the first time in his career Tuesday as he was named honorable mention on the 2020 NVA/AVCA All-America Team.
After being named first-team All-Big West on Apr. 6, Wetter added another career milestone by earning All-America accolades for the first time this season. He is the third CSUN player to earn NVA/AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) national honors in the last four seasons.
Wetter was the national leader in hitting percentage this season, hitting .528 with 159 kills and just 26 errors on 252 attacks. The redshirt sophomore from Camarillo, who was a Big West All-Freshman Team pick in 2019, also had a team-high 49 blocks while serving a career-high 11 aces in just 15 matches. His total of 159 kills was second only to Kyle Hobus among CSUN hitters while his 2.74 kills per set average was also a career-high.
In two seasons, Wetter is a career .456 hitter which ranks second in program history behind former Matador All-American Jacek Ratajczak, who hit .457 from 2007-10.
Wetter is the program's 53rd men's volleyball All-American dating back to 1985 when Chuck English earned the program's first All-America honor by Volleyball Magazine. Neil Coffman was the first CSUN player to earn AVCA All-America honors in 1991 and would be followed by 23 Matadors, most recently Dimitar Kalchev in 2019.
