9/29/2020 12:15:00 PM | General
The CSUN Under Armour Faculty are a group of professors and lecturers committed to assisting student-athletes in their academic success and professional development. The group was started in 2016 by Professor and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Ed Jackiewicz and has since grown to nearly 30 faculty members from various majors across campus.
Over the past few years, this group has assisted students through workshops, panel discussions, game attendance and one-on-one conversations. They are here to help you, the students. In the coming months, GoMatadors.com will introduce you to the various members of CSUN's UA Faculty.
Dr. Ed Jackiewicz
Professor and Chair Geography and Environmental Studies
Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) to the NCAA
Started at CSUN in 2001
PhD. Indiana University
Teaching and Research areas: Tourism, Migration, Environmental Studies/Sustainability, Cities, Latin America and the Caribbean.
I was born in Connecticut and grew up an avid sports fan (New York Knicks, St. Louis Cardinals, and LA Rams) and left for Arizona State University after graduating high school. It took a while to figure out what to do with my life, but ultimately decided I wanted to teach and travel which led me to Geography. I have been able to travel to nearly 50 countries, mostly through my research and attending conferences. In addition to travel, I love being outside and going to see live music.
One of my favorite activities during my tenure as FAR, has been taking three different groups of student-athletes on service trips to Costa Rica. It was a great opportunity for student athletes to perform community service, connect with peers from other teams, explore a beautiful country and gave me an opportunity to get to know everybody in a non-academic environment. Hopefully, we can resume those trips in the near future!
