KAPOLEI, O'ahu - Junior Julia Johansson fired a one-over 73 in the second round to move up five spots while the CSUN Women's Golf team carded a score of 305 to remain in eighth-place after two rounds of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Tuesday at Kapolei Golf Course.
Johansson, who began the day in a tie for 27th-place, fired three birdies on Tuesday on her way to a season-low round of 73. She had one birdie and two bogeys on the front nine to finish at one-over before a double bogey on her first hole of the back nine dropped her to three-over. But a pair of birdies and six pars over her final eight holes brought her back to one-over for the round and seven-over 151 for the tournament which is tied for 22nd.
As a team, the Matadors posted a nine-shot improvement from round one to round two. CSUN opened with a team score of 314 on Monday before finishing Tuesday's round at (+17) 305. CSUN however was not able to gain ground in the team competition as the Matadors remain eighth at 619 heading into Wednesday's final round. Baylor (562), the lone team under-par after round one, continued to lead as the Bears shot a blistering team round of (-10) 278 to open up a 19-stroke lead over second-place Santa Clara (581).
