KAPOLEI, Hawai'i - Sophomore Fernanda Sosa Stackpole is in the top-30 while the CSUN women's golf team is in 13th place after the opening round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Monday at Kapolei Golf Course.Â
The Matadors carded a team round of 315 but are just seven strokes out of the top-10. Gonzaga and Colorado State share the 18-hole team lead at 282 while the Zags' Cassie Kim and Grace Lee are the individual co-leaders at 5-under 67.Â
Sosa Stackpole began the day on the No. 6 tee and was 4-over after six holes following a series of four bogeys. She remained 4-over through 11 holes before consecutive birdies at No. 17 and No. 18 brought her back to 2-over. Sosa Stackpole then finished 2-over on her final five holes to finish the day tied for 28th at 4-over 76.

COACH MICHELLE WINKLER SAID
"Despite the wind today, I thought overall we had a smart game plan. Sadly, we struggled off the tee and made some critical mental errors. If we can improve on certain holes these next two days, I know we'll come back strong."
All teams will tee-off Tuesday's second round at 9:00 a.m. local time with a shotgun start. CSUN will open the day on the 16th through 18th tees.

- Freshman Kim Turgut is also in the hunt after posting a 5-over 77 in round one. Turgut had two birdies and 10 pars on Monday and is currently tied for 34th.
- Grace Bettis is tied for 58th after posting an 8-over 80 in round one. Bettis posted one birdie but also had nine bogeys on Monday.
- Gracie Piar is tied for 68th after posting a pair of birdies on her way to a 10-over 82 while Elle Laur is tied for 70th after posting an 11-over 83.
