Final Round 276 Moves CSUN Into 13th Place at Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate

LAHAINA, Hawai'i - Three Matadors finished under-par as the CSUN men's golf team posted a season-low round of 8-under 276 on Sunday to move up to 13th place at the conclusion of the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate at Ka'anapali Golf Course.
Eirik Thomassen, Felix Schrott and Thomas Burou all finished under-par in the final round, highlighted by Thomassen's 6-under 65 which is the low by a CSUN player this fall. Schrott finished as the low Matador in the tournament, tying for 27th at 4-under 209 after a final round 2-under 69.
As a team, the Matadors' season-low round of 276 vaulted them past three teams on the final leaderboard as CSUN placed 13th at 3-over 855. 11th-ranked Oklahoma (811) claimed the team championship by 12 shots over Clemson in the 20-team field. Clemson did have the individual champion as Andrew Swanson finished at 18-under 195 to win by two shots over North Florida's Nick Gabrelcik.

- Schrott, CSUN's low player in two of the last three tournaments, had five birdies on Sunday and was as low as 3-under until a bogey on his final hole dropped him to 2-under on the day and 4-under 209 for the tournament.
- Thomassen's season-low 65 vaulted him 38 spots on the final leaderboard into a tie for 53rd at even-par 213. He opened the day with four birdies over his first seven holes to get to 4-under. After a double bogey at No. 18, Thomassen notched the first of two eagles to get back to 4-under. His second eagle at No. 6 dropped him to 5-under before finishing 1-under over his final four holes to get to 6-under on the day.Â
- Paul-Louis Gachet had three birdies in the final round as he finished in a tie for 83rd at 5-over 218 after a one-over 72 on Sunday.
- Nick Fowlkes also tied for 83rd at 5-over 218 after notching a pair of birdies in a final round 2-over 73.
- Brandon McDonough, competing as an individual, tied for 96th at 8-over 221 following rounds of 73-74-74 and fellow individual Ian MacKay tied for 100th at 9-over 222 after posting scores of 72-76-74.
- Thomas Burou rounded out the CSUN scoring as he rebounded from a string of five consecutive bogeys over his opening six holes to finish 6-under over his final 12 holes to close the final round at 1-under 70. Burou tied for 107th at 11-over 224 following rounds of 75-79-70.
The Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate concludes the fall season for the Matadors who will return to competition Feb. 20 at The Joust in Riverside.Â
