
CSUN Top 10 – No. 9 Men's Volleyball earns first AVCA Top-15 ranking since 2020

From June 20 to July 24, GoMatadors.com will present its top 10 CSUN sports moments from the 2022-23 year. At No. 9, the CSUN men's volleyball team moved back into the AVCA Top-15 national rankings for the first time since 2020.
After receiving votes in four of the first five polls of the 2023 season, the CSUN men's volleyball team earned a No. 15 national ranking on Feb. 6, 2023.
Following a 3-2 victory at home over No. 6 Stanford (Feb. 3), the Matadors earned a then-season-high 19 points in the NVA/AVCA Men's Division I-II Coaches poll to re-enter the Top-15 for the first time since the 2020 season.
CSUN was last ranked among the top-15 on Jan. 13, 2020 when the Matadors were No. 13 in the 2020 preseason coaches poll. Prior to that, CSUN had been ranked in the AVCA Top-15 for 62 consecutive weeks and 262 of the last 289 weekly polls dating back to the 2002 season.
Then, following a dominating 3-0 sweep on the road at No. 10 Stanford on Mar 3, the Matadors improved to 12-5 on the season while
receiving a season-high 91 points to move up to a No. 12 national ranking. It marked a high point for CSUN in 2023 and was the Matadors' highest national ranking since ranking 11th in the final poll of the 2019 season.
CSUN had three student-athletes earn All-Big West honors in 2023 as Kyle Hobus was named first-team for the second consecutive season, Griffin Walters and named honorable mention and Malcolm King earned All-Freshman Team accolades.
