From June 20 to July 24, GoMatadors.com will present its top 10 CSUN sports moments from the 2022-23 year. At No. 7, CSUN Water Polo's Dorottya Telek made Matador history by breaking the school's single-season scoring record and finishing with 101 goals.
In a year where the CSUN Water Polo team posted its most wins in nine seasons, center Dorottya Telek would have one of most prolific individual seasons in team history.
As a freshman in 2022, Telek scored 77 goals, finishing with the second-most goals ever scored in team history. Heading into this season, only Whitney Delgado had recorded more goals in a season with 80 in the 2010 season.
In 2023, Telek would not only end up eclipsing her freshman tally, but shatter Delgado's record with a triple-digit goal scoring year in the pool. Telek began the year scoring in 18 of her first 19 matches and posting 17 multiple-scoring performances over that span.
By March 7 of the season, Telek had tied her freshman goal mark and was on the doorstep of making team history. In the Matadors' home opener against Villanova, Telek scored her 78th goal in the opening minute of the match. Telek then netted her 79th goal in the second period before tying Delgado's record late in the first half.
Her record-breaking goal would come with just over five minutes left to play in the match. Receiving a pass in front of the net, Delgado set a shot past the defense and found the net for her historic 81st goal of the year.
While the Matadors would fall short in the opening round of the Big West Championship, Telek made more history by scoring her 101st goal of the season, tying The Big West's single-season goal mark.
After the season, Telek earned her second consecutive All-American award along with an All-Big West Second Team selection.
Next season could potentially be another historic year for Telek as she needs just 52 goals to break CSUN's all-time career goal record held by Madeleine Sanchez.

Telek though was far from done in 2023. She powered the Matador offense in Big West play, scoring 15 goals in the team's seven league contests. In the regular season finale against Cal State Fullerton, Telek recorded a hat trick - her 24th multiple-scoring performance of the year - to help beat the Titans. Her three goals pushed her season tally to an amazing 100 goals. With that goal, Dorottya Telek has just broken the school's single season goal record with her 81st of the year!
