NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head women's basketball coach Angie Ned has announced the hiring of Nate Fripp as an assistant coach to the Matadors in the 2024-25 season.
"Nate is an experienced coach and recruiter throughout the west coast" said Ned. "His knowledge of The Big West and ability to connect with student athletes will have an immediate impact. I couldn't be more excited to build the program with him."
Fripp comes to CSUN after spending nine seasons at UC Santa Barbara from 2015-24. While on the Gaucho bench, UCSB reached the Big West Championship game twice in 2017 and 2023. Fripp would help coach the Gauchos to 121 wins in his nine seasons including a 78-75 Big West record over that span while he coached 19 All-Big West selections in his tenure.
Prior to his time at UCSB, Fripp was the head girls basketball coach for 10 years at St. Mary's College High School in Berkeley, Calif. In his time with the Panthers, he amassed a 276-72 record and .793 winning percentage. His teams posted top-30 finishes in the state a total of seven times.
Three of his teams finished with over 30 wins with his 2010 team tallying a 31-4 record before being crowned the NorCal Champions and finishing second overall in the California State's Division IV. Fripp's teams were six-time league champions, five-time North Coast Section Champions, and a two-time CIF State Champion runner-up. To acknowledge his accomplishments, Fripp was named the 2010 ANG Newspapers East Bay Coach of the Year.
In addition to his high school coaching, Fripp also coached the East Bay Xplosion Basketball Club since 2004 as an assistant coach.
As a player, Fripp earned a four-year scholarship to play basketball at Brigham Young University in Hawai'i. He graduated from St. Mary's College High School in the class of 1996.
