Phillips, Constable Earn Big West Men's Volleyball Players of the Week

Phillips, a redshirt sophomore opposite from Anaheim, led CSUN to a pair of five-set wins over No. 10 UC San Diego. Phillips had 61 kills over 10 sets to average 6.10 kills per set, including a career-high 34 kills in Saturday's reverse sweep. He hit .310 on 126 swings in the two matches, including a .400 clip on a career-high 65 attacks on Saturday. Phillips, who now has the national lead in kills for a single-match this season, also added 15 digs (1.50 per set) and three blocks.
Phillips is now a three-time Big West Offensive Player of the Week this season, also earning the award on Feb. 24 and Jan. 20. He has also earned Big West Freshman of the Week four times in his career.
"I'm really proud of the way Jalen played this past week," said head coach Theo Edwards. "His approach to the game is all about growth and getting better and earning Player of the Week again is just another step in that journey. This honor isn't just a reflection of what he's done, it's a sign of how hard he's working to keep getting better!"
Constable handed out 115 assists over 10 sets, averaging 11.50 assists per set. He had a career-high 62 assists in Saturday's reverse sweep. In leading the CSUN hitters to a combined .324 hitting clip, he also added 18 digs, two aces, and four blocks. Constable posted his first double-double of the season in Thursday's home win with 53 assists and 10 digs.
"I'm really proud of the way Donovan stepped up this week," added Edwards. "As our setter, he's the engine that keeps everything running, and his recent calm leadership and steady growth have been huge for our team. Every match, he's finding new ways to improve and elevate the guys around him. His progress has been awesome to watch!"
CSUN concludes the Big West regular season this week, taking on No. 4 UC Irvine in a home-and-home series. The Matadors and Anteaters meet Thursday in Irvine before closing the regular season on Saturday at Premier America Credit Union.#GoMatadorsÂ
