Soldwisch Ties for 7th, Women's Golf Finishes 6th at Big West Championship

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Freshman Ariya Soldwisch finished in the top 10 in her first Big West Women's Golf Championship, while the Matadors took sixth as a team as the championship concluded on Tuesday at Spanish Trail Country Club.
Soldwisch, who was in the top 10 throughout the championship, opened the day in sixth place before a final round 5-over 77 dropped her into a tie for seventh place at 5-over 221. Soldwisch's finish is the best by a Matador golfer since Brianna Steger finished second at the 2019 Big West Women's Golf Championship at Moorpark Country Club. Â
As a team, CSUN finished the final round at +23, 311 to slip from fifth to sixth in the nine-team field with a three-round total of +41, 905. The Matadors have now finished sixth at back-to-back championships, matching their best finish since finishing as runners-up in 2019. Cal State Fullerton (+3, 867) led from start to finish to capture the team championship while the Titans' Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith took home the individual championship by two shots over teammate Davina Xanh.

- Soldwisch, who was tied for second after day one and sixth after day two, posted one birdie, four bogeys, and one double bogey in a final round 5-over 77. A front nine featuring eight pars and one bogey sent her to the back nine at 1-over. A double bogey at No. 10 dropped her to 3-over before her final birdie at No. 11 moved her to 2-over. But three bogeys over her final seven holes closed out a 5-over round of 77.
- Three Matadors wound up tied for 28th as Nicole Tanoue, Kim Turgut, and Gracie Piar were among six players at 12-over 228. Tanoue had one birdie and six bogeys in the final round to finish at 5-over 77.
- Turgut notched a pair of birdies in the final round but also had six bogeys and one double bogey in carding a 6-over 78.
- After posting her best-ever Big West Championship round on Monday (70), Piar had three birdies and one double bogey on the front nine to make the turn at 1-under. But six bogeys and one double bogey on the back nine would drop her to 7-over 79 on the day.
- Sophomore Meghan Paracuelles rounded out the final CSUN scoring, following up rounds of 84-86 with an 11-over 83 on Tuesday to finish 45th at 37-over 253.Â
