FULLERTON, Calif. — The CSUN women's basketball team (10-19, 6-14 Big West) dropped an 81-60 decision to the Cal State Fullerton Titans Saturday afternoon at Titan Gym. Saray White and Mariona Cos-Morales led the way with 13 points each while Amya Moody had 10 points off the bench.
The Matadors started quickly, taking an early 8-5 lead midway through the opening quarter after a 3-pointer from Cos-Morales. Fullerton answered with a strong response, using a 10-0 run fueled by a pair of 3-pointers from Madelynn Muniz and a layup from Cristina Jones to seize a 15-8 advantage. The Titans carried a 15-10 lead into the second quarter.
Fullerton extended its momentum in the second period. The Titans pieced together another surge that pushed the lead to double digits. A series of second-chance opportunities and transition baskets helped Fullerton stretch the margin to 35-22 heading into the intermission.
CSUN found more offensive rhythm in the third quarter, shooting over 40 percent in the period. A 3-pointer from Morgan Edwards and a driving layup from Cos-Morales helped the Matadors cut the deficit to 49-38 with 3:13 left in the period. However, the Titans answered with key baskets from Maddy Tauro and Jones to maintain control and take a 56-40 lead into the final period.
The Matadors continued to compete offensively in the fourth, scoring 20 points in the frame. Moody knocked down a late 3-pointer and Edwards added another triple, but Fullerton countered with efficient shooting down the stretch, including a late three from Maxine Sutisna that helped seal the 81-60 victory.
