Adam Divinity Takes Home Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Week

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- Adam Divinity earned Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for leading the way for the CSUN men's cross country team at the 2026 Kim Duyst XC Invitational on Saturday at River Oaks Golf Course hosted by Stanislaus State.

Divinity paced the Matador men with the eighth fastest 8k time in school history at 24:33.8, good enough for fifth place overall in the meet. It was the fastest 8k time Divinity has run in his collegiate career, beating his previous best of 24:45.3 at the 2025 Kim Duyst Twilight.

The CSUN men finished in second overall with a score of 49 (4-8-9-13-15-18-19), second to only UC Santa Barbara who finished in first place with a score of 41.

This is the first time a Matador cross country runner has won the Big West Athlete of the Week honor since Michael Merchan won it twice in 2018.

"It's an honor to represent my team, my sport, my school and most importantly it's an honor to know all the work that my team and I have done is getting recognized," Divinity said. "It's amazing to know that I am the first cross country runner to receive such an honor since 2018. That's almost a generational deal, but I've got to keep my head down and keep working. This is just the beginning of something special."

CSUN returns to action in two days on Sep. 17 for its first of three races in Riverside this season. The first contest is the annual UCR Invitational which will take place at the UCR Ag Ops Course. CSUN will then gear up for its first of five races in October as it will travel to Santa Clarita for the Master's Invitational hosted by The Master's University at Central Park on Oct. 3.
