Brandon Shingles enters his third season as an assistant coach to the CSUN Men's Basketball team in 2026-27.
In Shingles' time with CSUN, the Matadors have registered back-to-back 20 win seasons and finished tied for third in the Big West each season.
CSUN went 20-14 this past season and 12-8 in the Big West standings. The Matadors would collect a second-round win in the Big West Championship over UC San Diego and advance to the semifinal round for the first time since 2014. The team also collected seven straight wins in the conference season, tying a school Division I record.
Shingles helped CSUN set a number of school milestones in his first season in 2024-25. The Matadors would finish 22-11 overall, tying the program's all-time record for wins. CSUN also went on to break the school's record for conference wins (14) and match the program mark for road victories (10).
Shingles joined the Matadors after spending one season as an assistant coach at Lindenwood University while he previously served as an assistant at McNeese State for the 2022-23 season.
Prior to McNeese, Shingles spent two seasons as assistant coach at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. where he served as the program's recruiting coordinator, defensive coordinator and director of scouting. With Shingles on the sidelines, Chipola ranked among the top defensive teams in the nation while the Indians won back-to-back conference and state championships and made a pair of final four appearances in the NJCAA National Tournament. Shingles would help 11 different players transition to the NCAA Division I level including three to Power Five programs. In all, Shingles coached two NJCAA All-Americans and eight All-Conference players in his two seasons.
As a player, Shingles spent his first two collegiate seasons at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Ga. He led the Stallions to an all-time school best 27-5 record and was a first-team all-conference selection.
A graduate of Morehead State, Shingles was a two-year starter with the Eagles from 2008-10. He would end his collegiate career ranked in the school's all-time top 10 list in assists while he helped guide the program to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship. Shingles played in the 2009 NCAA Tournament with Morehead State, helping the Eagles post an opening round victory.
Following college, Shingles played nine professional seasons overseas for teams in Germany, England and Spain. Shingles earned all-league honorable mention in 2016 and was an all-star in 2010 and 2011.
