Dr. Jacob Jensen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at CSUN, where he teaches courses in sport psychology, psychology of injury, and imagery/visualization.
Dr. Jensen has been teaching at CSUN since 2014 and was hired by Matador Athletics as the sport psychology consultant for student-athletes in the fall of 2023. He works with individual student-athletes, teams, and coaches on a variety of topics, including mindfulness, accountability, resiliency, and self-care.
Dr. Jensen received his PhD from the University of Tennessee and completed his dissertation research on NCAA collegiate tennis players transitioning to the professional tour. He is currently continuing this line of research during his teaching sabbatical for 2023-2024. Dr Jensen also conducts research in the areas of mindfulness, anxiety reduction, and applied interventions in sport and performance psychology. He has published and presented his research both nationally and internationally. He co-hosts a regular podcast on Power985.com radio highlighting aspects of his work as a sport and performance psychology consultant.
Dr. Jensen has been a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology since 2013 and mentors graduate students seeking CMPC certification. He also has a private practice outside of CSUN in which he consults with individuals from a variety of sport and performance settings.
As a former NCAA tennis player, Dr. Jensen continues to play tennis 4-5 times a week and is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in the United States Tennis Association Senior Mother/Son Division, having won a gold ball last year at the San Diego Hard Court National Championships. He also loves spending his spare time at his tennis condo at the World Tennis Center in Naples, Fla., and loves riding his bike, kayaking, and enjoying nature.
