Marisol Lopez is a licensed clinical social worker and joined the CSUN Sports Medicine staff as Athletics Case Manager in February 2024.
Lopez works in collaboration with CSUN University Counseling Services (UCS) and is housed full-time within CSUN Athletics. Her role represents a strategic partnership between UCS and Athletics to expand mental health support for student-athletes through integrated, accessible, and athlete-centered care.
Lopez serves as the primary mental health liaison for student-athletes, offering individualized support through consultations, crisis intervention, and case management. She collaborates closely with UCS, sports medicine, and other campus partners to deliver a holistic, multidisciplinary approach that addresses both mental health and sports-performance needs.
With extensive experience across diverse mental health settings and a personal background in athletics from her own time as a high school athlete, Lopez brings a unique blend of professional expertise and deep-rooted passion for sports. Her connection to sports continues to fuel her commitment to destigmatizing mental health in athletics.
Looking ahead, Lopez is committed to fostering a culture where student-athlete mental health is normalized, prioritized, and seamlessly integrated into collegiate athletics. She envisions expanding the current athletics mental health program by taking a proactive approach, one that empowers student athletes to thrive both on and off the field. Her vision is grounded in actively listening to the evolving mental health needs and preferences of student-athletes.
Lopez earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from San Diego State University and her master's degree in social work from the University of Southern California. In her free time, she enjoys walking her two dogs, working out, and attending live sporting events.
