Matt Monroe completed his 26th year with CSUN Athletics in 2024-25. Monroe was named Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications, Brand Management & Broadcasting on Mar. 5, 2018.
In addition to managing CSUN's Strategic Communications, Brand Management & Broadcasting department, Monroe oversees the communications efforts for the Matador men's and women's volleyball, beach volleyball, and men's and women's golf programs.
He also coordinates CSUN's ESPN+ partnership, which produces live streams of Matador Athletic events. With a robust student production crew, CSUN produces over 100 Matador games on the platform annually.
In his 26 years at CSUN, Monroe has served as media coordinator at several Big West and NCAA championship events. This past year, he served as the Big West/CSUN Sports Communications liaison for the Big West Beach Volleyball Championship at the Ocean Park Courts in Santa Monica. In 2019, CSUN also hosted the Big West Women's Golf Championship at Moorpark Country Club and the Big West Beach Volleyball Championship at Zuma Beach in Malibu. CSUN has also served as the primary host for a pair of conference championships in men's golf (Big West, 2023, Big Sky, 2000).
Monroe was the Matadors' primary sports information contact when CSUN hosted the NCAA West Region Track & Field Championships in both 2004 and 2008. CSUN has also hosted the Big West Track & Field Championships a total of seven times, most recently in 2018.
In addition to his CSUN duties, he has also assisted the Big West's media relations efforts at the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at the Honda Center in Anaheim in 2008, 2011, 2014, and 2016.
During his CSUN tenure, Monroe has been awarded three "Best in the Nation" citations for publications by CoSIDA, including his 2002, 2004, and 2005 men's volleyball media guides. His CSUN Track & Field media guide earned third-place honors in CoSIDA District 8 in 2002.
Prior to joining the CSUN Communications office, Monroe spent five years (1995-1999) as the Sports Information Director at Menlo College in Atherton, Calif. As the only full-time SID at the NCAA Division III school, he oversaw publicity efforts for all 13 varsity programs. In 1998, the Oaks' football program was featured in an NFL Films documentary surrounding the program's decorated coaching staff of former NFL players. Monroe began his career as a Media Relations Assistant with the Oakland Athletics during the 1993 season.
A native of San Carlos, Calif., Monroe earned his bachelor's degree in communication studies from Sonoma State University in 1992.
