Nick Bocanegra is in his ninth full year as a member of the CSUN Strategic Communications department in 2023-24. He serves as sports information director and contact for the men's basketball, baseball, women's soccer and women's water polo team.
After previously serving as media relations intern from 2009-10, Bocanegra officially joined the department in the spring of 2015 where he served as sports information director to the baseball team. He would become the SID for the women's soccer and women's water polo team in the fall of 2015 while serving as the secondary contact for men's basketball.
Bocanegra became the primary contact to men's basketball for the 2016-17 season. He was promoted to Assistant Director of Sports Communications in 2018.
Bocanegra graduated from CSUN with a degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing in 2009. After graduating from CSUN, he worked as a full-time case manager at Los Angeles Youth Opportunity Movement and then the non-profit Youth Policy Institute where he helped out-of-school youth obtain a diploma and enroll into college and the workforce.
