Nick Bocanegra is in his 11th full year as a member of the CSUN Strategic Communications department in 2025-26. He serves as sports information director and contact for the men's basketball, baseball, women's soccer, track & field and women's water polo teams.
After previously serving as media relations intern from 2009-10, Bocanegra officially joined the department in the spring of 2015 where he served as sports information director to the baseball team. He would become the SID for the women's soccer and women's water polo team in the fall of 2015 while serving as the secondary contact for men's basketball. He became the primary contact for men's basketball beginning in the 2016-17 season. Bocanegra was promoted to Assistant Director of Sports Communications in 2018.
In his time at CSUN, Bocanegra worked as the media coordinator for the Big West Women's Soccer Championship when CSUN hosted the event in 2017.
Bocanegra graduated from CSUN with a degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing in 2009. After graduating from CSUN, he worked as a full-time case manager at Los Angeles Youth Opportunity Movement and then the non-profit Youth Policy Institute where he helped out-of-school youth obtain a diploma and enroll into college and gain work experience.
