Kathy Toerner

Kathy Toerner was inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990. Toerner lettered for the CSUN Softball team from 1981 to 1984. The former shortstop is widely recognized as a foundational piece of the program's rise to a national powerhouse.
Toerner helped lead CSUN to consecutive NCAA Division II National Championships in 1983 and 1984. She was a four-time All-American as an infielder as well as a four-time All-CCAA selection, a three-time All-Region selection and a two-time member of the All-National Tournament team.
Known for her impactful bat, she famously propelled the Matadors to a CCAA conference title in 1984 with a key home run at UC Riverside.
A True Matador Legacy: Toerner established a multi-generational athletic legacy at CSUN. Her daughter, Kaitlin, followed in her footsteps as an outfielder for the CSUN softball team from 2014 to 2015. Her son, Austin, played baseball for the Matadors, as did her cousin, Justin, and uncle, Sean, who both played for the CSUN baseball team.
Toerner earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology from CSUN in 1985.
