Mel Wilson was inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984. Wilson was a standout defensive back, lettering for the CSUN Football team from 1972 to 1975.
Wilson was the school's first All-American in football, earning honors in 1975. He was also a three-time All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selection as a defensive back.
He was selected in the fifth round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He played in the NFL for the New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs, and the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL.
Wilson graduated with a business degree from CSUN in 1977. He built a successful career as a prominent San Fernando Valley real estate broker and later transitioned into civic leadership, including a run for Mayor of Los Angeles in 2022.
