Michael Hamm

Michael Hamm was inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1986. Hamm lettered for the San Fernando Valley State from 1976 to 1979, Hamm was a standout breaststroke specialist, an Olympic Trials qualifier, and a core member of CSUN's powerhouse aquatics era.
Hamm helped lead the Matadors and coach Pete Accardy to three consecutive NCAA Division II national championships in 1977, 1978, and 1979. Hamm was a four-time Division II All-American during his collegiate career. Set the NCAA Division II national record in the 200-yard breaststroke in 1978 with a time of 2:07.8. Hamm went undefeated in the 200-yard breaststroke in 1979. Combined with teammates to set a school record in the 400-medley relay (3:33.58).Â
Hamm, who completed his career as a four-time NCAA individual champion, followed his historic run at CSUN by transitioning into a highly decorated career in aquatic education and coaching spanning over 50 years. Hamm founded the Hamm Swim School in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and helped build powerhouse programs like the Los Angeles Peninsula Swimmers (LAPS) and Kroc Masters. He was recognized with the prestigious  Kerry O'Brien Coaches Award in 2017 for his lifelong dedication to the sport.
Hamm earned his bachelor's degree from CSUN in 1982.
