NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (23-9, 3-0 BWC) defeated Pacific, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Matador Diamond. Debbie Duran picked up her league-leading 16th win of the season and Lauren Olivas had a season-high two RBIs as the Matadors completed the series sweep of the Tigers and extended their winning streak to 11 games.
Both teams got a run in the second inning and the game remain tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the sixth. Christina Saenz started off the frame by reaching on an error and moved to second following a sac bunt by Micah Putnam.
After Krystal Raphael was hit by a pitch, Olivas slapped a single through the right side of the infield to bring home Saenz and give CSUN a 2-1 lead. A wild pitch moved Olivas to second and Sarah Kahn-Shamout pinch-ran at third for Raphael.
Kristen Mihm then delivered a sac fly to left field to score Kahn-Shamout. Olivas would be thrown out trying to advance to third to end the inning. Pacific would get a run back in the top of the seventh, but left two runners on base when the game ended.
Duran scattered 10 hits en route to her 12th complete game of the year. She walked two and struck out two Tigers and is now 16-5 with a 1.53 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 128.1 innings of work. Gabby McDaniel took the loss for Pacific.
The win pushed the Matadors' winning streak to 11 straight, the most by a CSUN team since the 2004 season. CSUN improved to 8-2 at Matador Diamond and 8-1 in one-run games this season.
Northridge returns to action next week with a league-series at Long Beach State. The Matadors and 49ers play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Apr. 4 and a single game on Apr. 5 also at 1 p.m.
