CSUN Falls in Both Games of a Doubleheader to Fullerton at Home

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- CSUN softball (9-22, 5-9 Big West) dropped both games of a Big West doubleheader to Cal State Fullerton on Friday at Matador Diamond, falling 11-1 in five innings in the opener before losing 7-0 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
CSUN struck first in the bottom of the opening inning as Madison Okano singled and later scored on Mackenzie Kila's RBI bunt single for a 1-0 lead.
The Titans responded immediately with a four-run second inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and a CSUN error to take control. Maggie Paulovich delivered a two-run single in the frame, while Kate Verhoef added an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1.
A double and three singles accounted for three more Titan runs in the fourth inning. Colby McClinton was responsible for two of those runs batted in during the inning.

A wild pitch and a Lulu Sanchez RBI brought two more runs home in the fifth while an error and a defensive miscue scored the last two runs.

GAME TWO
The Titans carried their momentum into the second game, scoring in the first inning on an RBI single from Sarah Coccillos to take an early lead.
After adding a solo home run from Nataly Lozano in the fourth inning, Cal State Fullerton broke the game open with a four-run fifth. The inning featured an RBI double from Sanchez and aggressive baserunning, including a double steal that brought home a run.Â
Fullerton pitcher Eva Hurtado was dominant, tossing a complete-game one-hitter with nine strikeouts. A Vanessa Perez single in the fourth inning was the only hit for the Matadors.
NOTES OF THE GAME
CSUN looks to claim the third and final game of the series, Saturday afternoon at Matador Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+. Cooper Hopkins will be on the call.
