CSUN Falls 5-1 to Buffalo

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (20-8) lost 5-1 to Buffalo Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game as part of a tournament at Matador Diamond. CSUN mustered seven hits, including doubles by Taylor Nate and Crystal Maas, but could not solve the Bulls' Bobbi Langlois in taking the loss.
Maas (0-1) made the start in the circle for CSUN, but ran into trouble quickly. Buffalo struck for two runs in the first inning on three doubles. In the fourth, Buffalo added three more on a three-run home run. All five were earned and Maas had two walks and a strikeout in 3.1 innings of work.
Offensively, CSUN had its chances but left five runners on base. The Matadors were retired in order in the first, second and fourth innings. CSUN got a run across in the fifth inning when Kaitlin Toerner delivered a two-out single to score Tara Kliebenstein.
Maas did her best to help her cause in the circle, going 2-for-2 with a walk. Four other Matadors had a hit in the contest. Brianna Elder tossed the final 2.2 innings for CSUN, not allowing a hit and striking out four batters.
The Matadors close out the weekend Sunday with a 3 p.m. contest against Colorado State. There will be two non-CSUN games before the Matadors play.
