NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (5-18, 3-6 Big West Conference) hosts UC Irvine on Saturday, Feb. 13 in a 4 p.m. Big West contest at The Matadome in its lone contest this week. Mark Roberts will be calling the action on the CSUN Sports Network and BigWest.TV and live stats will also be available at GoMatadors.com. Fans are also encouraged to check with the CSUN Athletic Department's official Twitter accounts (@GoMatadors, @CSUNCapeCrew and @_AlwaysFamily_) for updates throughout the weekend.Â
Last week, the Matadors dropped a pair of hard-fought road games at Long Beach State and UC Riverside. Against the 49ers, the Matadors stormed back in the second half to force the extra frame and had a pair chances that just did not fall to send the game to a second overtime. Channon Fluker pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds and added 17 points while Emily Cole finished with 12 points on four 3-pointers.Â
Two days later and on ESPN3, the Matadors once again clawed back in the fourth quarter to give the first-place Highlanders a scare. Katelin King scored all of her career-high 17 points, including five 3-pointers, in the fourth quarter and Fluker posted her sixth-straight double-double in Big West play.Â
This week, CSUN has just one Big West Conference game on the slate. On Saturday, Feb. 4, the Matadors host the UC Irvine Anteaters in a 4 p.m. contest. The game will be part of the Play 4 Kay Initiative to support breast cancer awareness. The game will feature $1 admission for all fans wearing pink and the first 250 fans with a ticket will receive a free t-shirt.Â
The Anteaters enter the weekend sitting in eighth place in the Big West Conference standings with a 1-9 mark in league play. UCI comes to the San Fernando Valley off an 80-62 home loss to UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Bren Events Center. Earlier this season, CSUN scored an 83-64 victory at UCI. Â
Next week, the Matadors travel to UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Feb. 18 for a 7 p.m. contest in The Thunderdome. Two days later, CSUN returns to The Matadome to host Cal Poly in a 4 p.m. contest broadcast on ESPN3.
