Taylor Glover Goes 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a double vs. Shockers
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The CSUN softball team (5-4) split its second day at the DeMarini Desert Classic in Las Vegas, defeating Wichita State 9-3 and losing 6-4 to Colorado State. In the victory over the Shockers, Taylor Glover was a perfect 4-for-4 and Katie Hooper added a home run. Against the Rams, Karlie Habitz hit a two-run home run, but the Matadors' rally in the seventh inning fell short in the loss.Â

The CSUN softball team defeated Wichita State 9-3 Saturday morning in Las Vegas at the DeMarini Desert Classic. Junior Taylor Glover tied a career high as she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a double while junior Katie Hooper went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.Â
Glover posted four hits in a game for the third time in her career. She added her first double and second stolen base of the year in the victory. She has moved into a tie with Amanda Peek for 10th in school history with 99 career runs scored.Â
With her season-high four RBIs, Hooper moved into a tie with Christen Bedwell for eighth in school history with 99 in her career. The home run was her second of the season and 21st of her career, the eighth-most in school history and moving her past Jaci Carlsen and Shannon Jones.Â
Savannah Horvath went 1-for-3 with three runs scored and two stolen bases while Taylor Nate added the fourth CSUN steal of the game and added an RBI. Â Mackenzie Babbitt recorded her second double of the year and Karlie Habitz added an RBI double in the win.Â
In the first, Horvath and Glover reached on singles and then executed a double-steal to get into scoring position with no outs. Karlie Habitz then delivered her seventh RBI of the weekend with a sac fly. In the second, Babbitt started the inning with a double and then scored on a sac fly from Nate.Â
The third and fourth innings saw CSUN plate three runs apiece. Horvath walked and Glover doubled to put runners in scoring position again with no outs. Hooper then delivered a two-run single and later scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Babbitt.
In the fourth, Horvath was hit by a pitch and stole second to start the inning. Glover then drove her home with a single and scored on Hooper's home run. Habitz added a double in the frame but would not score.Â
The Matadors would get their ninth run in the fifth when Glover drove home Nate with an RBI single.Â
In the circle, Daphne Pofek (4-2) picked up the win with 3.2 innings of relief work. She allowed four hits and one earned run with one strikeout. Taylor Troost started for CSUN and allowed two earned runs to go with a career-high four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.Â
Colorado State Recap
The Matadors lost 6-4 to Colorado State in their second game Saturday in Las Vegas. Karlie Habitz hit a two-run home run and Madison Fleming added an RBI single, but a pair of runs for Colorado State in the sixth inning proved to be the difference.Â
In the third, Taylor Glover picked up an RBI single that scored Tara Kliebenstein. She finished 3-for-4 at the plate and 7-of-8 on the day.Â
After Colorado State took the lead on a two-run  home run in the top of the fourth, Madison Fleming drove in Mackenzie Babbitt with an RBI single after Babbitt reached on an error. That tied the game at 2-2 after four innings.Â
In the fifth, the Rams added two runs to take a 4-2 advantage. In the bottom half of the inning, Hooper doubled with one out and then walked home on the two-run shot from Habitz.Â
Unfortunately, the Rams hit another two-run home run in the top of the sixth. CSUN went in order in the sixth and in the seventh, put the tying run on base with one out. However, the next two batters went down in order and the Rams held on for the 6-4 victory.Â
The deep fly was Habitz's team-leading third of the season and she is second on the team with 10 RBIs.Â
CSUN closes out its time in Las Vegas with a game against Utah State on Sunday. Feb. 21. First pitch is slated for 9 a.m.Â
