CSUN Ousted by Cal Poly at Big West Championship

NORTHRIDGE, CA- The CSUN beach volleyball team was ousted from the inaugural Big West Beach Volleyball Championship Saturday as the Matadors fell to Cal Poly 3-2 in Huntington Beach.
CSUN (8-14), which won two of its three matches on Friday, had to battle through the elimination bracket Saturday and came up one win short to the Mustangs Saturday morning.
Lauren Conati and Katie Sato claimed the No. 1 pair over Jacqui Martin and Casey Carroll, 21-15, 21-14. The Matadors also captured the No. 5 pair as Nicolette Pinkney and Rachel Diaz earned a 22-20, 21-15 win over Dora Bellin and Shannon Fouts.
The remaining three matches all went to Cal Poly as Julie Haake and Maddie Leiphardt fell to Taylor Nelson and Adlee Van Winden at No. 2, 21-15, 21-12. In the No. 3 pair, Aeryn Owens and Erin Indermill dropped a 21-17, 21-15 decision to the Mustangs' Anna Gorman and Savannah Niemen. Lastly, CSUN's Rachel Gam and Kristey Markle fell by the score of 21-13, 21-16 at No. 4.
CSUN, which had defeated Cal Poly 4-1 earlier this season, winds up 2-2 at the first ever conference championship and 8-14 in its most ambitious schedule in three years.
