NORTHRIDGE, CA---
CSUN Women's Soccer (1-0-1) battled Oregon State (0-0-1) to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at Lorenz Field in Corvallis, OR. Senior Camille Watson knocked in her first goal of the season in the opening minutes of the first half while redshirt junior Jovani McCaskill played strong in net, posting eight saves to preserve a tie in 110 minutes of hard fought action. The tie kept the Matadors undefeated through two matches for the first time since 2012.Â
Outshot 16-7 in the contest, the Matadors withstood eight shots in the two overtime sessions including four attempts that McCaskill snagged to keep the game squared. Cynthia Sanchez led the Matadors in shot attempts with three while Watson had two on the afternoon.Â
Seeking its second-straight road win to begin the 2016 season, the Matadors struck first at the outset of the match. Riding the high from Friday's second half game-winner from Sylvia Trinh, CSUN came out firing in the first half on Sunday.Â
After the Matadors were called for offsides at the 2:13 mark of the first period, Watson recorded the Matadors' first shot of the match. Despite having her shot blocked, Watson would get another opportunity at the net moments later. Collecting the ball from the OSU's backline, Watson headed to the net and beat goalkeeper Bella Geist one-on-one to net the game's first goal.Â
The Matadors continued to press offensively throughout the remainder of the first half. Sanchez had two shot attempts in the period including an attempt that was corraled by Geist in the 11th minute. Moments after OSU was whistled for a foul, Kourtney Kutscher looked to add to the Matadors' lead but Geist again stopped the shot to keep CSUN at bay.
Neither side was able to create any scoring opportunities over the final 30 minutes as the game remained 1-0 heading into intermission. Leading by a goal, the Matadors outshot OSU 5-2 in the first half and held the Beavers to one shot on goal. After halftime, the Beavers would turn the offensive production around, challenging the CSUN defense for the remainder of the match.Â
Shortly after McCaskill snagged her second save of the match, Nikki Farris utilized a cross from Emma Jones to head in the equalizer in the 65th minute.
Moments afterwards, OSU looked for more as Jones fired at the net but McCaskill kept the game even with another save. The Beavers picked up two more shots over the remaining time in regulation including a shot on goal from Allison Pantuso, however, strong Matador defense maintained the 1-1 tie.Â
Held without a shot for the entire second period, the Matadors were able to break that string in the 97th minute as Sanchez set her sights on the game winner but Geist stopped the shot attempt.
After neither side could nail the deciding goal in 10 minutes of play, the teams headed into a second overtime. OSU maintained the possession and attempted a series of shots on the Matadors' goal but McCaskill would be up for the challenge at every turn.Â
The all-time leader in goals-against-average in team history, McCakill saved a shot attempt from Farris in the 106th minute and stopped three more over the final two minutes to ensure a draw. With eight saves in the match, McCaskill came within one of trying her career high for a single contest.Â
With her goal on Sunday, Watson has four goals and 14 points in her CSUN career. She has also scored at least one goal in each season with the Matadors.
CSUN heads home for the start of a three-match homestand beginning on Friday, Aug. 26 against North Dakota State. Kick off is slated for 5 p.m.
