CSUN Beach Volleyball Plays a Pair in Bakersfield

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN beach volleyball team takes to the road this weekend as the Matadors cap a season opening three-match road trip.
After dropping their season opener at Concordia-Irvine on Mar. 8, CSUN travels to Bakersfield Saturday to battle the host Rodrunners at 1 p.m. and Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. Both matches take place at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex on the CSU Bakersfield campus.
The Matadors opened the season with four 5-0 exhibition wins at home before falling 4-1 at Concordia. Kristey Markle and Autumn Russell picked up CSUN's lone win at Concordia, taking a 12-21, 26-24, 15-13 decision in the No. 3 match. Julie Haake and Katie Sato also went the distance in the No. 2 match before falling 15-13 in the decisive third set.Â

CSUNÂ is 1-4 all-time against CSU Bakersfield after splitting a pair of matches last season. In 2016, the Matadors won 3-2 in Northridge and dropped a 3-2 decision in Bakersfield.
The Matadors and Loyola Marymount have split two matches all-time with the Lions winning 4-1 in Los Angeles in 2014 and CSUN winning 3-2 at home in 2016. Haake and Maddie Leiphardt won the No. 2 match for the Matadors to seal the win last season.
Following two matches in Bakersfield, CSUN opens the regular season home schedule next Thursday, Mar. 23 as the Matadors host Colorado Mesa and Pepperdine at the CSUN Beach Volleyball Facility.
