NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUNÂ beach volleyball program announced its first-ever beach volleyball freshman class as the Matadors announced the addition of Katherine Kedeshian and Lauren McMurray.
"Katherine and Lauren are the first beach volleyball players we've had come in as freshmen," said head coach Jeff Stork. "We've had a few transfers over the years but Coach (Noelle) Rooke has done a wonderful job of getting out and recruiting these great volleyball players. We're very thankful that they're coming to CSUN."
Kedeshian, a 5-4 defender from Pacific Palisades (Palisades Charter High School), played three seasons of beach volleyball in high school for coach Dane Selznick. She was a first team all-league libero for the Dolphins indoor volleyball team in 2014-15 and a second team all-league setter in 2013-14. Kedeshian also played for the USA Volleyball High Performance National Team.
"Katherine is a very dedicated and focused volleyball player," said Stork. "She's a defender who's very passionate about the game. Katherine has a very high beach volleyball IQ and we hope to help her develop her game at CSUN."
McMurray, a 5-10 hitter from Phoenix, AZ (Mountain Pointe High School), was a blocker on The Pride beach volleyball team in 2017, earning Best Offensive Player accolades. She also played two seasons as a middle blocker for the indoor volleyball team.Â
"Lauren is an outstanding beach volleyball player with a tremendous upside," added Stork. "She can play either defender or blocker, she has that type of size. We're really excited about Lauren coming to CSUN."
"We're thrilled that Katherine and Lauren have decided to join our Matador beach family as I know they are both hungry and eager to contribute to the growth of our program, said Rooke. "They are both great people who come from very supportive families. Katherine and Lauren are serious about their academic interests and take their training on the beach in a very competitive manner so I know they are going to grow and be tremendous assets to our university and beach volleyball program."
