NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN opens Big West Conference women's basketball play Saturday night when the Matadors (7-7) travel to Cal State Fullerton. Tip is set for 6 p.m.

Cal State Fullerton defeated Hawai'i 69-57 Thursday night to open Big West play. Jade Vega led four players in double figures with 19 points against the Rainbow Wahine. Daeja Smith recorded a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Titans.Â

Vega leads the team in scoring (12.3). Smith is second on the team in scoring (11.9) and is second in the Big West in rebounding at 9.8 per game. Vega is fourth in the league in assists per game (3.8) entering this week.

At 6-8, Cal State Fullerton has already won two more games under first-year head coach Jeff Hurada in 2017-18 than in 2016-17 (4-15). This is the 51st meeting between the two schools. CSUN has won 13 in a row in the series dating back Jan. 14, 2011 when the Titans defeated the Matadors 75-67. Cal State Fullerton leads the all-time series 27-23.

Junior Channon Fluker was named Big West Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season Jan. 2. Fluker recorded the third triple-double in CSUN history Dec. 30 against Seattle U. The 6-4 center scored 28 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and blocked a school-record 13 shots against the Redhawks. Fluker broke the previous school record of 11 blocks which was set by Camille Mahlknecht against Cal State Fullerton On Feb. 8, 2014.

Fluker's 13 blocks are the most by a Division I player in a game this season (as of 1/1/17) and reset the Big West Conference record for most blocks in a game. Simone Srubek held the previous mark of 12 which she accomplished on two occasions, most recently on Mar. 2, 1990 against UNLV.Â

The Pasadena native is the 13th player in Division I this season to record a triple-double. She made a career high 14 free throws against the Redhawks, the 12th highest total by a Division I player in a game this season. Her 17 free throw attempts are also a career high and are the 13th most in a game by a D-1 player this season.Â

Fluker was chosen Madness Big West Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season on Jan. 1. She has been named Big West Player of the Week 10 times in her career, tying her with three others for the third most in conference history.
