NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN women's basketball team has a split week coming up as the Matadors host Long Beach State Thursday night at 7 p.m. before heading to UC Davis Saturday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m. tip.
Â
Thursday's game is CSUN's PlayforKay night. The first 300 fans through the doors get a pink camo shirt thanks to Dignity Health. The CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health has the video stream on Thursday with Eric Kaback on the audio call. The pregame show gets underway at 6:55 p.m. Long Beach State, the defending Big West champions, have struggled throughout the 2017-18 season. The 49ers are 2-20, 0-8 in league play. Shanijah Davison lead the Beach in scoring at 12.1 points per game. Long Beach State leads the all-time series 40-18.
Â
CSUN and UC Davis are playing for the second time in seven days. The Matadors ended the Aggies' 18-game Big West Conference winning streak last Saturday when CSUN defeated UCD in overtime 75-71. Morgan Bertsch led the Aggies with 25 points against the Matadors. She is now second in the Big West in field goal shooting (55.2) and third in scoring (19.8).
Â
CSUN has won five of the last six games using a strong defense along the way. In the last six games, the Matadors have not allowed more than 56 points in regulation games. CSUN allowed only 30 points at UC Santa Barbara Jan. 31 in the 18-point victory over the Gauchos. The fewest points the Matadors have allowed in a game was 21 which UCSB scored on Feb. 14, 2015.
Â
Channon Fluker became the all-time leading rebounder at CSUN Feb. 3 when she recorded her second 20-rebound performance of 2017-18 against UC Davis. Fluker has grabbed 935 rebounds, breaking the old mark of 923 which was set by Denise Sutton (1982-87). Fluker is 35 rebounds shy of sole possession of 10th on the all-time rebound list in the Big West. If and when she gets to 1,000 she would be just the ninth BWC player ever to do so.
