Probable Pitching Match-Ups
Friday, March 16-Sunday, March 18
RHP Walker Armstrong (1-0, 3.42 ERA, 17 SO) vs. LHP Connor Curlis (3-0, 3.52 ERA, 24 SO)
LHP Wesley Moore (1-2, 3.32 ERA, 21 SO) vs. RHP Ryan Feltner (1-0, 7.40 ERA, 21 SO)

Last Wednesday, CSUN and UCLA battled in a rain-filled affair at Matador Field. The Matadors trailed 2-1 in the sixth before Albee Weiss belted a two-out solo home run to even the game. The Bruins would take the lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI double from Jack Stronach. As rain continued to pour onto Matador Field, the Matadors began a rally in the bottom of the eighth after singles from Alvaro Rubalcaba and Joey Cooper. At that point, the game was called due to the weather conditions with the Bruins ahead 3-2.
The game between the Matadors and Bruins will resume on May 15 when the teams travel to UCLA. Before their regularly scheduled game at 6 p.m. the team will conclude Wednesday's contest with Trevor Casanova at the plate and both Rubalcaba and Cooper on base.Â
When official, Weiss' home run against UCLA gives him 10 home runs on the season as well as his 32nd home run of his Matador career. In the Matador record books, Weiss would move into a ninth-place tie with Ryan Pineda (2008-10) on the career Top 10 list. While the home run on Wednesday does not count for the moment, Weiss is still third in the nation in homers with nine.
As a team, the Matadors are still in the Top 10 in a number of offensive categories across all of Divsion I baseball. CSUNÂ is second in slugging percentage (.580), third in home runs (32), sixth in batting average (.327) and ninth in runs per game (8.7). Weiss is also third in RBI (26) and seventh in total bases (52).Â
In the Big West, CSUNÂ leads the conference in a multitude of offensive categories including runs (139), hits (190), doubles (39), triples (6), home runs, RBI (134), extra base hits (77), total bases (337), batting average, on-base percentage (.406) and slugging percentage. Individually, Casanova leads the conference in batting (.435) and hits (27) while Weiss is tops in home runs, RBI and slugging percentage (.788). Cooper is also tied with Rubalcaba for the Big West lead in runs scored (16).Â
Making the Friday start this week, junior right hander Walker Armstrong (1-0) has registered a 3.42 ERA and 17 strikeouts over six appearances. Also during the weekend series with the Buckeyes, freshman left hander Wesley Moore (1-2) will start Saturday while junior right Matt Acosta (3-2) takes the hill on Sunday afternoon. Moore is tied for ninth in the Big West with 21 strikeouts over 19.0 innings of work to go with a 3.32 ERA. The Matadors are 3-0 in Acosta's starts this season as Acosta comes into the contest with a 3.60 ERA and 12 strikeouts.Â
The Buckeyes and Matadors have faced off only twice in baseball with games taking place during the 1994 season. In the teams' two-game series 24 seasons ago, the Matadors won the opener 12-4 but fell 6-3 a day later. The games took place at the Gator Slugfest, hosted by Florida. CSUNÂ is 20-13 all time against teams from the Big Ten Conference.Â
A Closer Look at Ohio State
The Buckeyes are 11-6 this season and will open up their home schedule against the Matadors this weekend. The team played six games over a six-day period from March 9-14. Ohio State went 2-2 at the Environmental Staffing Chanticleer Classic in South Carolina over the weekend before defeating UNC-Wilmington twice earlier this week. The Buckeyes went 22-34 last season but are two years removed from winning 44 games and advancing to the NCAA Regionals in 2016.Â
Senior Noah McGowan leads the team in batting (.406), runs (20), home runs (5), RBI (26) and slugging percentage (.739). Fellow senior Tyler Cowles is also hitting the ball well, batting .375 with 16 RBI, 11 runs scored and two home runs. Starting Friday, junior left hander Connor Curlis is 3-0 with a 3.52 ERA and a team-high 24 strikeouts. Also starting this weekend, junior right hander Ryan Feltner (1-0, 7.40 ERA) has struck out 21 batters in 20.2 innings while senior right hander Adam Niemeyer (0-2, 6.75 ERA) has fanned 16 batters over 17.1 innings of work.Â
