CSUN Softball 8-Game Home Stand This Week

The CSUN softball team begins a season long eight-game home stand this week.
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team begins a season long eight-game home stand this week as the Matadors welcome Providence College to the Matador Diamond for a Tuesday doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.

Tuesday's doubleheader marks the first of softball overage on the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health. Brandon Marcus has the call beginning with the pregame show at 12:55 p.m.

The Friars are 3-9 after only getting two games in at the Pacific Louisville Slugger Invitational this past weekend in Stockton. Vanessa Portillo is the team leader in hitting (.323).

Christina Ramirez is one of three PC pitchers with a victory. She has struck out a team high 16 in a team high 27.1 innings. Megan McCune is a two-way player for the Friars. She has one home run and a victory in the circle for Providence. This is the first time that CSUN and Providence are playing softball against one another.

The Matadors host the CSUN Tournament this weekend. The Matadors take on Texas Tech (8 a.m.) and Oregon State (3 p.m.) on Friday. CSUN plays Texas Tech again on Saturday at 1 p.m. before closing the tournament on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. against Seattle U. Live stats are scheduled for each of the games this week. Texas Tech is 12-7 to begin the week. Jessica Hartwell is hitting a team high .447. She is second in Division I in slugging percentage (1.149), fifth in home runs (9) and sixth in runs batted in (28).

Erin Edmoundson is 20th in Division I with eight wins. Edmoundson is 8-1 with a 0.96 ERA. She has struck out 58 in 52.1 innings. These will be the first two softball games between CSUN and Texas Tech.

Oregon State comes to Northridge with a 13-8 record. Shelby Weeks leads the team in batting at a .349 clip. She has one home run with nine runs batted in.

Meehra Nelson is 7-4 with a 1.82 ERA while Mariah Nelson is 5-4. Nelson is 14th in Division I in saves (2). This is the 30th meeting between CSUN and Oregon State with the Beavers leading the all-time series 19-9-1.

Seattle U is 11-9 to start the week. The Redhawks will host Toledo Tuesday before traveling to CSUN. Madison Cathcart is second in Division I in home runs (10), third in slugging percentage (1.123), 25th in RBI (23), and 43rd in hitting (.474).

This is the second time this season that Seattle U and CSUN have played one another. The Redhawks defeated the Matadors 6-4 in eight innings during the Arizona State Kajikawa Classic. CSUN leads the all-time series 6-4 against SU.

CSUN went 2-3 at the San Diego Classic last weekend. The Matadors defeated San Diego State 2-0 and Colorado State 3-1. CSUN lost to Boston University (9-2), Santa Clara (7-5), and San Diego (3-2).
Megan Stevens hit .500 during the weekend with one home run and four runs batted in. Savannah Horvath posted two home runs during the tournament. Jillian James started three of the games during the tournament, charting two complete games. She was 1-2 with a 1.42 ERA and had 14 strikeouts in 19.2 innings. Taylor Troost tossed a complete game five-hitter in the win over San Diego State.
