NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---The CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health announced today the return of Ross Porter for his fourth season in the broadcast booth calling Matador baseball games. Porter will provide play-by-play for all 30 home games at Matador Field including 15 full webcasts with video.
Â
"I'm very excited about announcing all 30 CSUN Baseball home games for the fourth season," said Porter. "Working with coach Greg Moore, his staff, and the fine young men who wear the Matador uniform is something I look forward to doing. I've chatted with each member of this year's team individually, and I'm very impressed. I invite you to join us on your smart phone or computer at GoMatadors.com with each game played in the afternoon."
Â
Porter spent 28 years as the play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers and won numerous broadcasting accolades throughout his storied career, including being selected as one of the top 60 baseball announcers of all time. In 2005, he was inducted in to the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame with his longtime colleague Vin Scully giving his induction presentation. Porter also hosted the pre-game and post-game radio show DodgerTalk for 14 years and more recently broadcast football and baseball games on Fox Sports West.
Â
His broadcasting career began when he was 14 years old, and since then Porter has worked for KNBC-TV in Los Angeles, where he worked with Tom Snyder and Tom Brokaw, for NBC Sports calling NFL and Pac-8 college basketball games and for UNLV calling men's basketball games.
Â
Porter is still the only broadcaster to be the voice of a World Series champion (1981 and 1988 with the Los Angeles Dodgers) and a NCAA basketball champion (1990 with UNLV). He also holds the major league baseball record for broadcasting 22 consecutive innings on the radio, uninterrupted, in a six-hour, 14-minute game between the Dodgers and the Montreal Expos in 1989.
Â
At the Matadors' annual Alumni Game on Jan. 27, the team unveiled a banner in honor of Porter's work in the broadcast booth over the past three seasons. The banner, which was hung below the press box where Porter calls Matador games, proclaims "Home of Ross Porter."
Â
Fans can listen to Porter calling all 30 games from Matador Field at GoMatadors.com/Radio. His first broadcast will take place on Friday, February 15 at 2 p.m. when the Matadors open up the 2019 season against Kansas State.
Video webcast schedules are subject to change.
