COACH JEFF CAMPBELL SAID
"I thought we were a little more decisive and played better than we did last night so that was encouraging. I'm happy that we played as well as we did, we passed really well and did some nice things. But the bottom line is we've had three days of practice and still have a lot of work to do."
SET 1
CSUN held a pair of three-point leads in the early stages of the match before a triple-block by Rotter, Ittner and Rzepniewski forced a Guelph timeout at 13-10. Rzepniewski then smashed down a Gryphon overpass followed by Ptaszynski's third ace of the set and CSUN opened up a five-point cushion at 15-10. The Matador lead was still five at 16-11 when Guelph answered with a 6-1 run to tie the score at 17-17. The score would be knotted three more times, the last at 22-22, when the Gryphons claimed three of the final four points in taking the set 25-23.Â
SET 2
Ptaszynski's fourth ace of the night gave CSUN an early 8-4 lead and the Matadors still led by four following a Rotter kill at 16-12. A Gryphon hitting error gave CSUN its largest lead at 21-16 and the Matadors maintained the five-point margin as they pulled even with the 25-20 win.
 Â
SET 3
Holding a slim 7-6 lead, CSUN engineered a 6-1 run, capped by a co-block by DeWeese and Cole Chea, to open up a 13-7 advantage. The Matador lead wouldn't dip below four points the remainder of the set as a late CSUN push made the final score 25-15.
