Meet CSUN's Under Armour Faculty

The CSUN Under Armour Faculty are a group of professors and lecturers committed to assisting student-athletes in their academic success and professional development. The group was started in 2016 by Professor and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Ed Jackiewicz and has since grown to nearly 30 faculty members from various majors across campus.
Over the past few years, this group has assisted students through workshops, panel discussions, game attendance and one-on-one conversations. They are here to help you, the students. In the coming months, GoMatadors.com will introduce you to the various members of CSUN's UA Faculty.
Dr. Stephanie Benjamin
Associate Professor, Department of Health Sciences
Started at CSUN in 2007
BA from University of Pennsylvania
PhD and MPH from Tulane University
Teaching and Research areas: Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Research interests: College health, vaccination, substance misuse, obesity, diabetes
I grew up in Orange County and started to swim competitively at age five and continued to swim competitively through my sophomore year at the University of Pennsylvania. I also played water polo in high school and played on the women's water polo club team at the University of Pennsylvania. This is why I really enjoy and appreciate working with the student athletes and being part of the Under Armour Faculty at CSUN!
I first became interested in the field of epidemiology during my senior year of college. To pursue this interest, I attended graduate school in New Orleans, LA, and then moved to Atlanta, GA to work as an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (which was a fantastic experience!). I eventually made my way back to CA and have been at CSUN since 2007. I really love CSUN because of all of the amazing students, faculty, and staff I have had the opportunity to work with during the years. I'm especially proud of helping to develop the MPH Applied Epidemiology program at CSUN, which has now been successfully running for three years!
