Meet CSUN's Under Armour Faculty
11/4/2020 10:51:00 AM | General
The CSUN Under Armour Faculty are a group of professors and lecturers committed to assisting student-athletes in their academic success and professional development. The group was started in 2016 by Professor and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Ed Jackiewicz and has since grown to nearly 30 faculty members from various majors across campus.
Over the past few years, this group has assisted students through workshops, panel discussions, game attendance and one-on-one conversations. They are here to help you, the students. In the coming months, GoMatadors.com will introduce you to the various members of CSUN's UA Faculty.
Elizabeth J. Sussman, PhD, RD, FCRS
Associate Professor, Nutrition
Associate Director, Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing
Started at CSUN in 2013
PhD Arizona State University
Teaching area: Vitamins and Minerals
Research area: nutritional needs for people with kidney disease and those on renal replacement therapy
I was born in Northern California and left to attend Cal State Long Beach for my undergraduate degree. I then left California for New York to complete my dietetic internship at Long Island University and earned a master's degree in Applied Physiology and Nutrition at Columbia University. After freezing for four years, I left New York to pursue a PhD in Nutrition at Arizona State University.
Throughout my life, my family and I have always been into sports (New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland A's, Golden State Warriors) and traveling. I've been to all seven continents, including Antarctica. I absolutely love to travel and learn about the history and culture of different places around the world; I'm always planning the next trip!
One of my favorite things about being a professor at CSUN is working with the students. Seeing students' thirst for knowledge is unlike any experience I've ever had, and it's what fuels my gas tank each and every day. I also have the pleasure of working with some truly amazing colleagues and I enjoy their knowledge, wisdom and comradery.
