NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head softball coach Charlotte Morgan has announced the hiring of Chelsea Johnson as an assistant coach.
"I am thankful for the opportunity Charlotte has given me to be her assistant and help coach this team," Johnson said. "I am excited to be a part of such a prestigious school and softball program. CSUN has always been at the top of the Big West. I can't wait to see what we as a staff can do and what our team is truly capable of."
Johnson joins the Matadors' staff after spending the past two seasons as the volunteer assistant coach at UC Riverside. Johnson assisted on all facets of the game on the field for UCR in addition to assisting the staff with the administration of the Highlanders' program.
Johnson is a 2018 graduate of the University of New Mexico where she earned second-team All-Mountain West Conference honors on two occasions. She was named third-team NFCA All-West Region and first-team All-Conference as a sophomore in 2016.
A four-time Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete selection, Johnson graduated from the UNM program with a 3.62 grade point average and a BA in Interpersonal Communication. She made her mark on the Lobos' program as she finished her career in the top 10 in New Mexico history in six different categories including batting average (.342), home runs (34), and RBI (139).
"I am excited to name Chelsea as our assistant coach," said Morgan. "Her career at New Mexico speaks for itself as a catcher and power hitter. She is young in her career and has exactly what I want in an assistant coach. She is loyal, hardworking, and knows the game inside and out. Both our coaching styles and philosophies fit together and can't wait to see what she is able to do here at CSUN."
