NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head softball coach Charlotte Morgan has announced the signing of seven players to National Letters of Intent to continue their playing career with the Matadors.
"This was our first official signing class as a staff here at CSUN and couldn't be more thrilled with who we have coming in," Morgan said. "Everyone of them bring in a different skill set and mentality to this program. What is more important to me is that they are equally talented in the classroom and take their academics seriously. This class has three pitchers which will add depth in the circle. We are adding speed, strength, and diversity with many tools to help elevate our offense. All of our newcomers have trusted our staff and new vision for this program."
Here are player capsules for the recruiting class;
Isabella Alsonso, Pitcher, Cypress, Calif., Long Beach Poly High School
"Isabella is adding depth to our pitching staff. She comes from a very highly respected travel ball team with the So Cal Athletics-Richardson. Isabella is facing top hitters every day and I can't wait to see how she contributes to our program. She takes academics very seriously and knows the standard that we are setting here at CSUN."
Lauryn Carranco, Pitcher, Clovis, Calif., Clovis High School
"Lauryn is also adding depth to our pitching staff! If you want to know what hard work, sacrifice, taking ownership then get to know Lauryn. Lauryn has the inner drive that is rare to come by and she is even better person while doing it. She takes academics also very serious and excited to see her come in and help raise the standard of Matador softball."
Kennedy Gustin, Utility, Martinez, Calif., Alhambra High School
"Kennedy was the first player to commit to us in this class. She is athletic, smart, and quick on the field. Kennedy will be able to play several different positions. She has a very upbeat personality and selfless personality. Kennedy takes academics very seriously and we are excited to see her impact on our program."
Raegan Roldan-Jackson, Infield, American Canyon, Calif., American Canyon High School
"Raegan plays at a high level and brings in strength and diversity on the field. She could play anywhere on the field if we needed her to. The way she plays is infectious and we are excited to have her as a Matador."
Bella Mejia, Outfielder, Aguanga, Calif., Great Oak High School
"Bella's smile is contagious! On the field she plays fast and smart. She is going to cover a lot of range in the outfield and will give us speed at the plate. Bella is someone that will become the table setter for our offense. Academics were very important to her and being able to do both at a high level and we are excited to give her the opportunity!"
Gizella Vargas-Sandoval, 3B/C, Arleta, Calif., John F. Kennedy HS (Granada Hills, Calif.)
"Gizella is right in our backyard, and we have wanted to make sure we were keeping our home talent here. Gizella plays with a competitive aura about herself and finds a way no matter what to do her job. She is adding depth to the corners and behind the plate. She is strong and loves to play this game and ready to see what she does as a Matador."
Riley Wickum, P/1B, Yuba City, Calif., Sutter Union High School
"Riley is a two-way player who pitches and plays first base. She will add diversity to the pitching staff and power at the plate. Not only can she be effective in the circle, but she can handle the corner well and add power to our lineup. Adding a player like Riley adds so much strength to many parts of our program. It's going to take a lot of work from her, but we know she is up for it!"
Morgan will begin her second season at the helm of the Matador program Feb. 10-12 when CSUN takes part in a tournament that the Matadors, UCLA, and Loyola Marymount will host.
